Adaptability and yield stability of cowpea elite lines of semi-prostrate growth habit in the cerrado biome Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Sousa,Massaine Bandeira e; Damasceno-Silva,Kaesel Jackson; Rocha,Maurisrael de Moura; Menezes Júnior,José Ângelo Nogueira de; Lima,Laíze Raphaelle Lemos.
ABSTRACT The effects of the genotype × environment interaction can be reduced by using cultivars with high adaptability and good yield stability. Studies on this subject allow identification of genotypes of predictable behavior, and responsive to environmental variations in specific and general conditions, in favorable or unfavorable environments. The objective of this work was to evaluate the adaptability and phenotypic stability of cowpea elite lines of semi-prostrate growth habit in the Cerrado biome in Brazil. Twenty cowpea genotypes of semi-prostrate growth habit were evaluated in nine VCU (value for cultivation and use) tests from 2010 to 2012. Grain yield data were subjected to analysis of variance, and stability and adaptability analyses were...

Genetic potential of common bean parents for plant architecture improvement Scientia Agricola
Silva,Vanessa Maria Pereira e; Carneiro,Pedro Crescêncio Souza; Menezes Júnior,José Ângelo Nogueira de; Carneiro,Vinícius Quintão; Carneiro,José Eustáquio de Souza; Cruz,Cosme Damião; Borém,Aluizio.
In common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) breeding, plant selection that associate erect plant architecture, high yield, and grains with good commercial acceptance has been the choice of breeders. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate potential parents, to obtain promising segregating populations that associate high yield, erect plant architecture and carioca grain type, as well as to obtain information on heterosis, general and specific combining ability of these parents regarding grain yield and traits related to plant architecture. Fourteen common bean lines were crossed under a partial diallel scheme. Group 1 was composed by eight erect plant lines and group 2 by six carioca grain type lines. The F1's plants from the crosses and the 14 parents were evaluated...

Identifying lines of the black-eyed cowpea having high productivity and quality commercial grain Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Delmondes,Bruna de Lima; Menezes Júnior,José Ângelo Nogueira de; Silva,Kaesel Jackson Damasceno; Rocha,Maurisrael de Moura; Neves,Adão Cabral das; Pereira,Cassiano Spaziani.
ABSTRACT The black-eyed cowpea, is consumed in Brazil and valued in various other countries, and for this reason, can be found on the domestic market, showing the potential for export. The aim of this study was to identify lines of the black-eyed cowpea having high productivity and quality commercial grain. Twenty-four lines of black-eyed commercial subclass of cowpea, taken from the breeding program of Embrapa Meio-Norte, and two controls (BRS Itaim and CB-27) were evaluated. The experiments were carried out in Nova Ubiratã, in the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil (MT) during 2014, and in Primavera do Leste MT and Sinop MT during 2015, in the off-season; planting was in February/March and harvesting in May/June. The experimental design was of randomised...
